5 In Flight Essentials For Your Skin
Planning a vacation for these summers?
Well, you must definitely plan one! Everyone deserves a tiny break from their busy life once in a while and have a leisure time. And since things are falling back to normalcy again after two long years of pandemic, you definitely should take some time off to travel to the places you have been dreaming of!
However, this "time off" should not result in you slacking on your skincare routine, especially when you are taking a long duration flight!
A long haul flight can have devastating effects on your skin. It can make the skin severely dry and dehydrated. Apparently, the dry cabin air inside the flight has a tendency to suck away all the moisture from your skin.
Melissa Levin, a clinical instructor in dermatology from New York City tells Allure Magazine - "Typically, skin stays comfortable when the humidity is between 40 to 70%, but most airplane cabins are at about 20% which is less than half of what we are used to.”
That explains everything!
By using certain products before and during your flight, you can keep your skin from becoming all-sahara-desert-dry. Here, we have charted out 5 in flight essentials for your skin that you should carry with you on your journey.
5 In Flight Essentials For Your Skin
1. A Heavy Duty Moisturizer
A heavy duty moisturizer can restore all the hydration and moisture that the skin loses due to dry air on the flight. Our DeBelle Skin Moisturizers range can be your best in-flight buddy as it they are superbly rich, hydrating and moisturizing that will not make your skin feel greasy. It is a nourishing food that your skin would require during and after your flight.
Moreover, you will not have to carry a body lotion, an eye cream or a face moisturizer separately if you have this all-in-one moisturizer with you.
A sunscreen moisturizer is also a must-have that you should carry in your in-flight handbag/cabin bag so that you can apply your sunscreen before your flight lands!
Bonus Tip - Avoid wearing heavy base makeup on the flight. Foundations and concealers can make your skin look even dry and also result in clogged facial pores, leading to acne as well as blackheads.
Try to keep your skin makeup free. If you want to look a little glammed up for your journey, you can apply a kajal, some lip gloss or tinted lip balm and ultra-lightweight DeBelle Fairness Cream to make your skin glow!
2. A Lip Balm
Just like your skin, your lips can also get dry due to low humidity levels. And having cracked lips never feels pleasant, right? So make sure to carry a lip balm with you in your handbag which you will be taking on flight.
Apply the lip balm whenever you feel that your lips are getting chapped. Make a tinted lip balm at home with these three ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
- 1 tablespoon Beeswax
- A lipstick of your choice
- A small tub container or twist up tube to store
Heat the coconut oil and beeswax together in a double boiler. Let the ingredients melt and add the tiniest bit of your favourite lipstick shade to give a hint of colour to your DIY lip balm. Mix everything well and transfer the mixture in an empty container or tube. As easy as that!
3. A Facial Mist
Your skin can beat the moisture-sucking monster, aka airplane, with a couple of spritzes of a hydrating facial mist. DIY this soothing green tea facial mist at home, you will need:
-
100ml of Hot Water
- 1 Green Tea Bag
- Tea Tree Essential Oil
- A Spray Bottle
Let the green tea bag seep in the hot water for a few minutes and wait for it to cool before you pour it in the spray bottle. Once you have poured it, add 2-3 drops of tea tree essential oil and screw the lid in place.
Shake the bottle so that the ingredients can mix well. Use this facial mist after every one to two hours while you are on the flight, to ensure that your skin is getting proper hydration.
4. A Pack Of Hydrating Facial Wipes
Usually, those people who have extremely oily skin complaint about having over-production of sebum on their skin while they are on the flight. This happens when your skin has no moisture or hydration left, it starts to compensate for the dryness and dehydration by producing an excess amount of sebum.
It can be a bit too overwhelming for someone with oily skin type to have excess sebum on their skin, that too in the annoying low humidity condition of flight.
A pack of hydrating facial wipes will come handy in such situation where you will feel like wiping off the tacky sebum and sweat from your face to make your skin feel refreshed. Facial wipes are far better than normal tissue paper because they are very gentle on your skin.
Facial wipes can be DIYed too! You will need:
- A cup of Rose Water
- 1 tablespoon of Aloe Vera Gel
- Cotton Pads
Take rose water and aloe vera gel in a container and stir well. Now stack the cotton pads in another airtight container which you will use to store the end product. Pour the mixture of rose water and aloe vera gel over the cotton pads.
Let the pads soak up all the mixture for an hour or a two and pour out the excess mixture left in the container. Your DIY hydrating facial wipes are ready and the best thing is, they are totally chemical free!
5. Water.. Lots Of Water!
Keeping your body hydrated is very crucial when you are in a long haul flight. Of course, you don't need to carry your own bottle of water with you because you can get it on board. Drink as much water as you can and avoid consuming coffee, alcohol or sodas.
Such beverages may seem tempting when you want to feel refreshed, but they are not a good choice when you are on a flight since they can make you feel bloated and dehydrate your body. Staying hydrated by drinking adequate amount of water in flight will indirectly help your skin.
