Skincare Tips For Teenagers

1. Don't Pick At Your Pimples

Skincare Tips For Teenagers

It happens to the best of us - you are dolling up to head out to your freshers' party or a date night with someone special and you end up noticing a huge, pesky pimple on your face!

We understand how annoying this situation can feel right before a special event, however, the worst thing you can do to that pimple is pop it - even if it is your first instinct to do so!

You should never pick at your breakouts or touch them repeatedly because doing so can leave scars on your face which can be hard to get rid of naturally. Besides that, touching acne breakouts too often can spread the bacteria on your skin and lead to more acne. Furthermore, we will also recommend you to not cover any active acne with heavy makeup because products like foundations or concealers can clog your facial pores.

You can certainly try out some of these natural and instant remedies on your acne as a spot treatment to reduce its size and redness -

  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Steeped Green Tea
  • Aloe Vera Gel
  • Ice

2. Choose Products Wisely

Again, as we said, skincare products are meant to be chosen as per your skin type. You cannot just pick any kind of moisturizer or face wash from the store and expect it to do wonders for your skin once you start using it. Before using any kind of skincare product, you should always go through its ingredient list to see if it contains chemicals that are bad for your skin.

Certain harsh chemicals and preservatives present in your skincare products can damage your delicate skin. Parabens, phthalates, triclosan, oxybenzone, SLS, etc, are some of the most commonly used chemicals in skincare products that interfere with your body's endocrine system and cause skin problems, mainly acne. Steer clear of skincare products containing these chemicals at all costs!

3. Avoid Using Odd Remedies To Treat Your Acne

Acne and pimples are very common during the teen years because of sudden hormonal changes. To get rid of them fast, many teenagers put their trust on old wives' remedies that may or may not be the best choice for their skin. In fact, some old age hacks or viral "internet" hacks can actually worsen your skin's condition. For example, using toothpaste or baking soda on active acne can burn your skin. Still, a lot of people believe in these two quick remedies to get rid of acne.

There are tons of natural ingredients that you can use on acne instead of these two, like tea tree oil (diluted with a carrier oil), neem leaves paste, and garlic. If you are a teenage girl with severe acne issue then you should consider seeing a dermatologist or a gynecologist before trying anything else because frequent breakouts can be a notable sign of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a very common endocrine-related disorder that affects 1 in 5 Indian women. It is the main culprit behind several recurring skin conditions like pigmentation, cystic acne, excess facial hair growth, etc,. If you experience these symptoms along with abnormal periods, do get yourself checked for PCOS.

4. Cleanse Your Skin At Least Twice A Day

Having dirt, oil or sweat on the skin for a long time can aggravate acne and also make your skin appear dull. Always make sure to cleanse your skin at least twice a day, once in the morning and once in the night before hitting the bed. Teens who play sports or go to the gym can carry some wet wipes which can be used to quickly clean the face after any activity. Reusable facial wipes can be made at home by following this method:

You will need:

  • 2-3 Washcloths.
  • Half cup Rose Water.
  • 1 tbsp Almond Oil.
  • 3-4 drops of Tea Tree Oil.
  • A jar for storage.

Put the washcloths in the storage jar. In a bowl, combine all other 3 ingredients and mix them well. Pour the mixture into the storage jar and press the washcloths to make sure that they soak up all the liquid. Your DIY facial wipes are ready!

You don't need to throw away the washcloths after using them, just wash them thoroughly, let them dry and use the same mixture to turn them into wet facial wipes again. Cheap and Eco-friendly solution!
